Section Info: Online | Chinese Calligraphy | Chinese calligraphy is a refined art form with five main styles-ranging from rough and informal to elegant and stylized. Each character expresses a moment through balance, proportion, and rhythm. Strokes follow a specific order, with even spacing and consistent sizing. The simplicity and meditative quality stem from Zen Buddhism and Taoism. CRE-912 PASD-Acrylics

Section Info: Pasadena Senior Center | Acrylics | In this class, students will learn skills to paint a variety of nature scenes on elements from nature including rocks, driftwood, oysters' shells, crab shells and more. Advanced and beginner students are welcome. Class is designed to be a relaxing and fun exploration of painting and art! Please come to the first session to see examples of painted elements and discuss supplies. Acrylic paints and brushes are required for this class. All nature elements will be provided by the instructor.

CRE-912 SCSC- Watercolors Beg./Interm

Section Info: South County | Watercolors Beginning/Intermediate | This course will acquaint students with basic approaches for working in watercolor. Plan to arrive at the first session with the supplies. The instructor will provide instructions on how to layer paint to build your painting. We will discuss color properties and color mixing. Section Info: South County | Multimedia Drawing Studio Practice | Develop your artistic skills, personal style and understanding of color theory, composition, creation of depth, texture and historical styles of art covered in the introductory Colored Pencil Drawing course. Students are encouraged to continue exploring wax, oil, watercolor, pastel and other types of colored pencil combined with various drawing and painting media such as pen and ink, markers, watercolor, acrylics and other mixed media techniques for enhanced and varied effects. Section Info: Online | Pastels | This course is for students of all levels, from beginner to advanced. Beginners will learn materials and pastel application methods through demonstrations, while advanced students will explore art principles and new techniques. Students will discover pastels as an exciting alternative to traditional painting methods. Individual attention is provided, and topics like framing, exhibiting, and shipping pastels will be covered. Students will paint their own subjects or images chosen by the instructor, with an emphasis on individuality, taking risks, and working from photographs. | Note: Attendance in online class sessions Tuesdays from 1-3:30 p.m. is mandatory for section 204.

CRE-913 SSAC-Drawing and Painting

Section Info: Severn Senior Center | Drawing and Painting | Participants will complete several art projects of their own choosing, such as still life, portrait, and landscape, in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. No previous art experience is required. Drawing basics such as line, value, light and shadow, linear perspective, and portrait proportions will be covered using pencil, eraser and drawing paper. Color basics such as primary, secondary, tertiary, complementary, and neutral colors, tint, tone, and shade will be covered using acrylic paint and oil pastel on drawing paper.

Matting, framing and preservation of work will be discussed. Critiques upon completion of painting projects. Identifying market outlets.
