Center for World Languages
AACC’s new Center for World Languages unites the college credit program and its noncredit continuing professional education instruction, offering new options for those wishing to learn to read, write and speak Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Portuguese, Russian or Spanish.
Those taking classes can access Rosetta Stone and other world languages software in a new state-of-the-art computer lab in the Careers Center on the Arnold campus. The 24 computers are equipped with the laboratory components that accompany many language textbooks. Open lab hours established each term will allow students time to use the lab to complete homework and class projects that require access to world languages software.
Pathways to Proficiency
Complete a comprehensive, eight-course sequenced continuing education certificate program designed to progressively improve practical, everyday foreign language skills at beginning and intermediate levels, with an intensive focus on spoken language skills. Choose from eleven languages: Arabic, Chinese, Farsi (Dari) (NEW!), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Pashto (NEW!) Portuguese, Russian and Spanish. The 30 to 40 hours of instruction per course and embedded performance assessment tasks ensure demonstrated student proficiency.
The world language series is ideal for government employees; defense contractors; business professionals; police, emergency and medical personnel; firefighters; airport and port security personnel; active duty military and family members; as well as educators and others needing mastery of foreign language skills for their job or career advancement. Those completing a series at either Beginning or Intermediate levels earn Continuing Education Units and Continuing Education certificates of completion.
