Section Info: Arnold Senior Center | Wood Carving-Beginner Novice | This wood carving class is designed for absolute beginners, including those with no experience or who have not carved in many years. Instruction focuses on hand tools only-knives and gouges-with no power tools used. Students learn tool selection, basic knife cuts, sharpening, wood selection, pattern application, pyrography, and painting. Because tools are extremely sharp, safety and basic first aid is emphasized. A Kevlar carving glove and leather thumb guard are required. While this class offers a single project to be completed over each semester, other carving styles will be discussed. In this class, only hand tools (knives & gouges) are used and since carving tools are extremely sharp, safety will be emphasized.
