BNS-908 PASD-Wood Carving

Section Info: Pasadena Senior Center | Wood Carving | The purpose of this class is to develop the skills of wood carvers from the novice to intermediate levels. While this class offers a single project to be completed over each semester, other carving styles will be discussed. In this class, only hand tools (knives & gouges) are used and since carving tools are extremely sharp, safety will be emphasized. Tool sharpening & selection, painting, and pyrography will also be covered. In lieu of the semester project, students may work on their own projects with instructor assistance (as time allows). Students will identify art venues and determine sales potential.

Section Info: Pasadena Senior Center | Advanced Stain Glass | No class May 25 | Learn glass cutting, pattern preparation, foiling, and soldering to complete a stained-glass project. CRE-912 ONLN-Chinese Calligraphy

Section Info: Online | Chinese Calligraphy | Chinese calligraphy is a refined art form with five main styles-ranging from rough and informal to elegant and stylized. Each character expresses a moment through balance, proportion, and rhythm. Strokes follow a specific order, with even spacing and consistent sizing. The simplicity and meditative quality stem from Zen Buddhism and Taoism. Students will explore art venues and assess sales potential. | Note: Attendance in online class sessions Tuesdays from 9-11 a.m. is mandatory for section 215.

Section Info: Online | Drawing | Improve your drawing skills by learning basic visual tools like the rules of thumb, relational measurement, and simplified measuring systems. The course includes exercises to enhance your drawing abilities. Students can choose to draw posted images or their own selections, primarily using pencils and charcoal, with optional watercolor pastels. You'll learn to create thumbnail sketches and how to evaluate and work from photographs | Note: Attendance in online class sessions Thursdays from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. is mandatory for section 217.

Section Info: South County | Colored Pencil | Discover the colorful potential of colored pencils, perfect for studio or travel drawing. Develop artistic skills with various colored pencil media, including professional-grade wax, oil, watercolor and pastel pencils plus related drawing materials. Explore historical styles of art including realist, impressionist, expressionist, surrealist, and abstract art. Learn color theory, composition, texture effects, and techniques to create depth. Various drawing techniques, surfaces and enhancement tools are also covered. Beginner to intermediate students welcome.

Section Info: South County | Multimedia Drawing Studio Practice | Develop your artistic skills, personal style and understanding of color theory, composition, creation of depth, texture and historical styles of art covered in the introductory Colored Pencil Drawing course. Students are encouraged to continue exploring wax, oil, watercolor, pastel and other types of colored pencil combined with various drawing and painting media such as pen and ink, markers, watercolor, acrylics and other mixed media techniques for enhanced and varied effects. Intermediate to advanced students are welcome.
