BNS-908 ASRC-Wood Carving-Beg Novice

Section Info: Arnold Senior Center | Wood Carving-Beginner Novice | This wood carving class is designed for absolute beginners, including those with no experience or who have not carved in many years. Instruction focuses on hand tools only-knives and gouges-with no power tools used. Students learn tool selection, basic knife cuts, sharpening, wood selection, pattern application, pyrography, and painting. Because tools are extremely sharp, safety and basic first aid is emphasized. A Kevlar carving glove and leather thumb guard are required. BNS-908 PASD-Wood Carving

Section Info: Pasadena Senior Center | Wood Carving | The purpose of this class is to develop the skills of wood carvers from the novice to intermediate levels. While this class offers a single project to be completed over each semester, other carving styles will be discussed. In this class, only hand tools (knives & gouges) are used and since carving tools are extremely sharp, safety will be emphasized. Tool sharpening & selection, painting, and pyrography will also be covered. In lieu of the semester project, students may work on their own projects with instructor assistance (as time allows). Students will identify art venues and determine sales potential.

BNS-915 SCSC-Wildfowl Carving

Section Info: South County Senior Center | Wildfowl Carving | No class May 25 | This course provides detailed instruction on the design, production, and marketing of completed wildfowl carvings that are finished. Topics include techniques of carved and painted wildfowl carvings and business and marketing strategies. An orientation that includes safety procedures is given by the instructor before the class starts. The instructor will provide a supply list for the students.

BNS-911 COSR-Clothing Intermediate Lvl

Section Info: Omalley | Clothing: Design, Sew and Sell-Intermediate Level | No class May 18 and 25 | This intermediate sewing class is designed for students who are already familiar with basic sewing techniques. The focus will be on working with a specific fabric type and building upon existing skills. Students will discover updated procedures and elevate their sewing expertise. Note: Students must be comfortable threading their sewing machine and committed to regular attendance.

Section Info: Annapolis | Design, Marketing and Art of Ceramics | No class May 25. | Students will work on pieces of their choosing and at their own pace. A supply list with sources will be provided. Students will learn painting techniques using various glazing techniques to acquire a glass-like finish or staining with acrylics paints and using additional methods by enhancing with antiquing and dry brushing. Glaze firing is provided at the center. Discussion of marketing strategies for selling ceramics. | Note: Attendance in online class sessions Mondays from 12:30-2:30 p.m. is mandatory for section 201.

A supply list of recommended supplies will be available the first day of class.
