MDC-101 Introduction to Medical Coding

Explore the medical coding process as a fundamental part of the complex health care environment and delivery system. Analyze the various areas of the coding process, the role that coding has in reimbursement, and its impact on the health care system. Identify and understand the importance of compliance and ethical issues that arise in the medical coding profession. Lab fee $150. Prerequisite: Acceptance into the Medical Coding Certificate Program with a grade of C or better in each required prerequisite course, or permission of the program coordinator. Corequisites: MDC 103 (formerly HIT 217) and MDC 105 (formerly HIT 218).
