A Little More

Ellen Asbury has her dream job because it combines two of her biggest passions: nursing and teaching. She says her students’ thirst for knowledge inspires her to be both a better nurse and a better teacher. In turn, she helps her students “believe that they are capable and can accomplish anything they want.”

Before joining AACC’s faculty full time in 2016, she was the director of infection control for the Veterans Affairs Maryland Health Care System, a job she also loved because she got to work with veterans at the Baltimore VA Medical Center.

A native of Colorado, Asbury’s move to Maryland in 2000 was tough at first, but she learned that the Chesapeake Bay was an excellent replacement for the Rocky Mountains. Although she loves being a professor, her favorite title is “Nana,” as her granddaughter, McKenna, calls her. If you can’t find her in the classroom, you might find her and her husband, Sean, traveling the world, especially to explore the roots of ancient civilizations. Her most recent trip was to Greece, Israel, Jordan and Egypt.
